Coat colours and body type: The defining feature of a Tabby is the M marking on their forehead. The Tabby is not a breed of cat but a coat type seen in almost all genetic lines of a domestic cat. A given Tabby cat will have her own genetic and historical origins. The tabby pattern is naturally occurring and relates to the coat of the domestic cat's direct ancestor, the African, Asiatic and European wildcat. Body types vary significantly within the Tabby group of cats. They are typically medium-sized and may come in a variety of colours or patterns. Brown, grey and ginger and common Tabby colours. They may be mackeral, classic, ticked or spotted in patterning. Many pure breeds of cat have a tabby colour pattern.
