A little about the Akita Inu

 

The Akita Inu is devoted and protective to their family, but are independent and stubborn. Large and powerful, they require an experienced handler and can be aggressive to other dogs.

The Akita Inu is predisposed to the following health conditions: Canine Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Pemphigus, Sebaceous Adenitis, Cruciate Ligament Rupture, Osteosarcoma, Lymphosarcoma, Gastric Torsion (bloat), Hypothyroidism, Patellar Luxation, Epilepsy, Entropian, Epilepsy, Renal Cortical Hypoplasia, Polyneuropathy, Microphthalmia, and Cataracts. Akitas are also sensitive to anaemia secondary to onion ingestion.
