The Chow Chow translates to "Puffy Lion Dog' in Chinese and is a powerfully built dog. Protective and devoted to its family, it can be aggressive with other dogs and strangers, but benefits from consistent training.

The Chow Chow may be predisposed to the following health conditions: Canine Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Entropian, Patellar Luxation, Cataracts, Distichiasis, Stenotic Nares, Glaucoma, Elongated Soft Palate, Renal Cortical Hypoplasia and Gastric Torsion (bloat).
