Coat type: Thick coat formed by two layers. The undercoat is soft and dense, with the outer coat being straight, long, harsh, and water repellent.

Coat colours: Black, white, sable, wolf-sable, brown, red.

Originally bred for: Herding reindeer.

Breed traits: Obedient, friendly, calm, independent, headstrong.

The Finnish Lapphund are an alert, intelligent, dog befitting their heritage of herding reindeer. Whilst this also means they love to be active, they are loyal, gentle and amiable companions who can make excellent family pets.
